Write-Behind Cache

3 tags 1 category

A write-behind cache accepts an update and propagates it to persistent storage later. Buffering can combine repeated updates and reduce storage traffic, but acknowledged data may exist only in the cache or its queue until the flush completes.

Implementations need policies for ordering, retries, queue limits, and crash recovery. The application must understand which failures can lose a recently acknowledged update before choosing this pattern for important records.
