Write Amplification
3 tags
1 category
Write amplification measures how much writing a system performs relative to the logical data written by the application. Storing a small update can require log writes, index changes, and later compaction, making the physical work much larger.
The metric must specify its measurement boundary, such as storage-engine bytes or device-level bytes. Lower amplification can improve throughput and storage endurance, but choices that reduce it may increase read cost or space consumption.
