The database prefix is the configured prefix used for a site’s WordPress table names. Plugins should derive table names through the database object’s prefix properties rather than hardcoding wp_. Multisite introduces additional site-specific prefixes. A migration or cleanup query that assumes the default prefix can target the wrong table or miss the intended records.
