TTL Jitter

1 category
TTL jitter adds a randomized offset to cache-entry lifetimes so that many entries created together do not expire together. An importer that warms thousands of keys with identical lifetimes could otherwise trigger a burst of misses later.
Jitter spreads those misses across a time interval. The allowed range should respect freshness requirements, and spreading expirations does not prevent many callers from simultaneously requesting one especially popular expired key.
