Snapshot Isolation

3 tags 1 category

Snapshot isolation lets a transaction read from a consistent database snapshot while keeping its own changes private until commit. Concurrent transactions that write the same protected item can conflict, requiring an abort under the model’s conflict rules.

However, transactions that update different items can still produce write skew. A consistent snapshot is therefore useful for coherent reads but is not a general guarantee that all transactions behave like a serial execution.
