Serializable Snapshot Isolation
3 tags
1 category
Serializable snapshot isolation adds dependency tracking to snapshot-based transactions to detect executions that could violate serializability. PostgreSQL uses this approach for its Serializable isolation level and can abort a transaction when the required safe ordering cannot be maintained.
Applications must retry the whole affected transaction with fresh reads. The technique is different from simply locking every read, and its monitoring of conflicting dependencies has its own resource costs.
