Sequence Lock

1 category
A sequence lock uses a changing sequence counter around a writer’s critical section. A reader copies the data and checks that the counter did not change and was not marked as an active write.
If the check fails, the reader retries. This can suit short reads of appropriately protected data, but a busy writer can cause repeated retries. Pointer lifetime and writer scheduling impose important restrictions on safe use.
