Retry Budget

3 tags 1 category

A retry budget limits additional attempts so failures do not produce unbounded extra traffic. The allowance can be a fraction of normal requests, a token pool, or another explicitly defined cap.

When an upstream service struggles, the budget prevents every caller from repeatedly multiplying the load. It complements per-request attempt limits and backoff. A budget must be scoped carefully because independent retry layers can otherwise amplify one user’s operation across several services.
