Read-Copy-Update

Read-copy-update lets readers access shared structures while writers create or publish updated versions. An old version remains alive until a grace period establishes that readers who could still reference it have finished.

This can make read-heavy paths efficient, but writers and reclamation must follow the particular RCU implementation’s rules. It does not turn an arbitrary multi-step update into a fully isolated transaction.
