Priority Inversion

1 category
Priority inversion occurs when a high-priority task waits for a resource held by a lower-priority task, while other work prevents the holder from running and releasing it. The effective delay can undermine the intended scheduling priority.
Priority inheritance temporarily raises the holder’s priority to address certain cases. Whether that mechanism applies depends on the scheduler and lock implementation, so application-level priority labels alone do not solve the problem.
