Positive-Negative Counter

3 tags 1 category

A positive-negative counter combines one grow-only counter for increments with another for decrements. Its value is the accumulated positive contribution minus the accumulated negative contribution, and each component follows its own convergent merge rules.

This supports concurrent increases and decreases across replicas. It does not automatically enforce a lower bound such as zero, so a distributed stock balance requires additional coordination or a design explicitly built to preserve that constraint.
