Optimistic Concurrency Control

1 category
Optimistic concurrency control allows work to proceed without holding a lock throughout the operation, then checks for conflicting changes before accepting the result. A record might carry a version number that an update must match.
If another worker changed the record, the update fails and the application reloads or retries. This works well when conflicts are uncommon, but retries can become costly under heavy contention.
