Negative Caching
3 tags
1 category
Negative caching stores the outcome that a requested item does not exist, or another explicitly cacheable negative result. Repeated requests for the same missing term can then avoid repeating a database lookup.
The negative entry needs an expiration or invalidation rule because the item may be created later. Caching a temporary backend failure as permanent absence would hide valid data, so the application must distinguish missing records from failed lookups.
