Little’s Law

3 tags 1 category

Little’s law relates the long-run average number of items in a stable system to its arrival rate and average time in the system: L = lambda × W. If a service completes twenty requests per second and requests spend half a second inside the chosen boundary, the average number in that boundary is ten.

The quantities must use consistent boundaries and units. The relation concerns averages and does not determine latency percentiles.
