Hybrid Logical Clock
3 tags
1 category
A hybrid logical clock combines a physical-time component with a logical counter to preserve ordering information despite clock uncertainty. It stays related to wall-clock time while advancing logically when message ordering or local events require it.
Distributed databases can use these timestamps when assigning versions or reasoning about transaction order. The clock does not eliminate physical clock errors or by itself guarantee linearizable reads; those properties require additional protocol rules.
