Grow-Only Counter

3 tags 1 category

A grow-only counter is a replicated counter that supports increments without decrements. In a common state-based design, each replica maintains its own component, states merge by taking the maximum of each corresponding component, and the visible total is their sum.

Duplicate merges therefore do not add the same contribution again. The replica identity scheme must keep independent contributions separate, and the structure does not directly implement a counter that can decrease.
