Decorrelated Jitter

3 tags 1 category

Decorrelated jitter chooses a randomized retry delay using the previous delay and configured bounds. In a common formulation, the next delay is selected between a base interval and a multiple of the prior delay, subject to a maximum.

This breaks synchronized retry schedules among many clients. The algorithm is one jitter strategy rather than a universal best choice, and it should be combined with attempt limits and an overall deadline.
