Deadline Propagation
3 tags
1 category
Deadline propagation passes an operation’s remaining time allowance to downstream components. If a top-level request has little time left, a database or remote call should not start with a fresh long timeout that exceeds the caller’s deadline.
This helps avoid doing work whose result can no longer be used. Implementations must account for elapsed time and clock representation, and cancellation remains cooperative unless the downstream system actively enforces it.
