Causal Consistency

3 tags 1 category

Causal consistency preserves the ordering of operations that can influence one another. If a person reads a message and then posts a reply, a causal system must not expose that reply to another reader before its prerequisite message.

Independent writes can be seen in different orders at different replicas. Applications must carry enough dependency information across requests or sessions for the system to identify the causal relationships it promises to preserve.
