Backpressure

1 category
Backpressure communicates that a downstream component cannot keep up so upstream work slows or waits. A bounded processing pipeline might stop reading more records until a consumer frees buffer space.
This limits runaway memory use and makes capacity constraints visible, but it can shift delays upstream. The design must define which operations may block and how cancellation or deadlines behave when a slow stage affects the rest of the pipeline.
